A car can stall after fuel pump replacement due to multiple reasons. Improper installation is a common cause where the fuel pump may not be properly seated on the fuel tank. The alignment of the pump, the air intake ring is too loose to easily get out when mistaking the pressure. Even a 10-15% loss of that pressure can cause the engine to receive the incorrect amount of fuel which will result in stalling either during acceleration or while idling. Fuel pressure should remain at around 40-60 psi depending on the particular vehicle, and any deviation from this number can impact engine performance.

That said, the less common but high-importance cause of a fuel pump that's too large or small is calibration. If the replacement fuel pump is not properly up to specifications for the vehicle it can cause incorrect fuel pressure or flow rate. This can cause stalling, particularly at higher speeds when the engine has a greater demand for fuel; as an examplea pump with less output may be rated for 80 liters per hour (LPH), and not produce the required amount of 100 LPH.
Problems with electrical grounding can be another reason why cars often stall after change. Another common failure point could be the ground wire if it was not properly spliced in during installation. An inadequately grounded fuel pump may also cause intermittent operation, potentially decreasing pump efficiency by as much as 20% and resulting in stalling. As per a 2019 report on automotive repairs, citing fuel pump problems in the US market, one instance where improper grounding led to hundreds if not thousands of vehicles stalling within minutes of replacing the pump.
